The PMP Exam is the Project Management Professional certification exam. This exam is administered by the PMI or Project Management Institute. The PMP exam is for project managers that are already practicing in the position and have the experience already to take the exam. The PMP certification is globally accepted and used throughout the project management industry. The exam has become a very valuable certification to have. Here are some things you should know about the PMP.

The PMI is an organization that was created in 1969 and works towards the growth and development in the area of Project Management. The PMP exam began in 1984 and there are chapters all around the world. All of these chapters are there to help with the test preparation to pass the exam.

The PMP certification is the most common and popular certification out of all PMI’s available certifications. If you want to get the PMP certification, than you will need at least 4500 hours of experience in Project Management and you will need to attend at least 35 hours of class room learning time too. Before you take the test you must submit your qualifications to PMI and receive an acceptance letter. Once you have this approval you can take the PMP.

When you take the PMP exam, it is computer based and there are 200 multiple choice questions on the exam. There is only one correct answer for each question and you have four hours to complete the exam. There are 25 questions that are not part of your score and they are throughout the exam, only the 175 other questions create your score. You have to answer at least 106 questions correctly out of the 175 questions in order to pass. You will receive your score immediately after completing the exam.

Keep in mind that the PMP exam is based on the PMBOK. The exam is $555 for non PMI members and $405 for PMI members. The PMI membership cost is $119, so apply for membership than apply for the exam. When you become a member of the PMI, you will also receive a free version of the PMBOK on CD.
